During their recent EUCOM rotation, the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT), 1st Armored Division, known as the Bulldog Brigade, experienced firsthand the unwavering support of the USO throughout every stage of their deployment. From emotional farewells to joyful homecomings, the USO stood shoulder to shoulder with soldiers and their families, offering comfort, connection, and care. “As the Brigade Command Sergeant Major of 3rd ABCT, 1st Armored Division, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of the USO’s support throughout our recent EUCOM rotation,” said CSM James Pyle. “Whether we were deploying, in theatre, or returning home, their presence made a real difference for our Soldiers and families,” the senior enlisted leader.

At both deployment and homecoming events, the USO played a vital role in creating an atmosphere of support and appreciation. Their presence brought energy and compassion to what would otherwise be stressful or emotional days. During deployment flights, the USO provided hospitality with games, snacks, and refreshments, and distributed thousands of deployment care packages to Soldiers. The USO K9 comfort team was also on hand, offering calming companionship to service members as they waited for their flights. At homecoming ceremonies, the USO provided snack and toiletry care packages for single Soldiers and geographic bachelors and set up a welcoming presence at Bulldog Field with hospitality tents that included games, snacks, refreshments, and a sign-making station for families eagerly awaiting their Soldier’s release. “USO support at deployment and homecoming events means a great deal to our Soldiers and Families,” the Brigade CSM continued. “It’s a reminder that their sacrifices are seen and appreciated, and it helps create a positive, morale-boosting environment during some of the most emotional moments of a deployment cycle.”

For the families left behind during deployment, the USO provides more than just snacks, games, and smiling volunteers, they offer peace of mind and a sense of community. Throughout the rotation, the USO offered consistent, meaningful programming to keep families engaged and supported, including monthly BINGO Nights, Tiny Tanks Snack and Craft events for children, and Coffee Connections gatherings for spouses. These events created opportunities for families to connect, share experiences, and form lasting bonds with others who were going through the same journey. “For our families, USO support is a symbol of community and connection,” said Brigade CSM Pyle. “It reassures them that they’re not alone—that there’s an entire network of great Americans standing behind them during both the goodbyes and the reunions.”

The Bulldog Brigade remains deeply grateful for the enduring partnership with the USO, which continues to reinforce the strength and resilience of the military community. “It’s important for the USO to be there because their presence strengthens the bond between the military and the community,” the CSM emphasized. “Their support helps ease transitions, build morale, and reinforces the idea that service members and their families are valued—not just by the Army, but by the nation.”
