Annual Medic Rodeo Competition at Cannon Air Force Base: A Vital Training Event for Air Force Medics
From May 12-15, 2025, Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico hosted the Medic Rodeo competition, featuring eighteen teams from across the Air Force. This event focused on enhancing tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) training, a key component of the Air Force’s MEDIC-X initiative, which stresses proficiency in 52 critical skills for both direct and indirect patient care.
The USO New Mexico outreach team played a crucial role during the four-day event by ensuring competitors had proper hydration and nutrition. They also provided entertainment during breaks, helping participants decompress from intense training scenarios. MSgt Marberg, Kiani from 27 SOMRS / SGXP, emphasized the significance of this support, stating, “The USO has always been the backbone supporting the military.”
The Medic Rodeo not only highlighted the skills and resilience of Air Force medics but also reinforced the need for continuous training and improvements. By participating in these rigorous exercises, the teams reaffirmed their commitment to the well-being of those they serve. As the Air Force anticipates future challenges in rapidly evolving combat environments, events like the Medic Rodeo play a crucial role in ensuring that every medic is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide critical care, ultimately enhancing the overall readiness of the Air Force future missions in complex combat environments.
